decision analysis partners at Caribbean emergency management workshop

Melissa Cook of decision analysis partners (DAP) participated in a workshop held in Barbados from November 21 to 23, 2023.  This event was organized by the GSM Association (GSMA) and the United Nations’ Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC), led by the World Food Program (WFP) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).  Melissa contributed her expertise to a panel discussion on the Emergency Alert System for the Caribbean Region, a subject that was the focus of a feasibility study conducted by DAP for the World Bank.

The workshop underscored the pivotal role that the mobile industry, humanitarian sector, and government play in telecommunications during disaster preparedness, response, and recovery phases. It emphasized the need for harmonization in the use of digital technology across multiple sectors and highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration throughout the disaster management cycle.  Key takeaways from the workshop included:
